Nicola Carraro First Wife. Meet Adonella Colonna di Paliano

Nicola Carraro is a well-known personality in the Italian publishing and cinema sectors, having skillfully combined a varied and significant career.

Biography

Carraro was born in Milan on February 1, 1942. His entry into the publishing industry appeared almost inevitable, coming from a family with a stronghold in the industry. After finishing his scientific education, he started his professional journey in October 1961 by working for the family publishing firm. Put in charge of the rotary press division, Carraro also attended the Catholic University to study Political Science, albeit he took very few courses. Because he tended to gamble at work, his printing press coworkers affectionately called him “Nick Mano Fredda” (Nick Cold Hand).

Carraro entered the advertising industry after completing his military duty in the Air Force at Albenga. His first position at Rizzoli was as assistant to Enzo Biagi in 1967. From 1970 to 1972, he was the editorial director of periodicals. His career progressed further when he became CEO of publications, a post he held from 1972 to 1974. It was because of the happenings at Corriere della Sera that Carraro left Rizzoli at the end of 1974.

A turning point in Carraro’s career occurred in 1975 when he purchased Sperling & Kupfer, a publishing business, with partner Tiziano Barbieri Torriani and took on the role of president.

Carraro’s career path took him to Rome in 1977, when he bought a sizable share in Vides S.p.A., a production business that helped him realize his film ambitions. Carraro returned to Sperling & Kupfer in 1990, despite having a prosperous career in movies. But in 1994, after Tiziano Barbieri Torriani passed away, the publishing business was sold to Mondadori, changing its ownership.

Notably, Carraro lived for several years on Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands, expanding his impact beyond Italy.
