Who Is Mirel Radoi?

Mirel Matei Rădoi, born on 22 March 1981, is a renowned Romanian professional football manager and former player. Currently, he serves as the manager of the Saudi Arabian club, Al Bataeh.

At Extensiv Craiova in 1999, Rădoi started his career as a centre defender and defensive midfielder. Steaua București was impressed by his extraordinary abilities and talent, and he joined the team in 2000.

Rădoi immediately made a name for himself at Steaua as one of the team’s important players under the direction of coach Victor Piţurcă. He provided the equaliser in a thrilling win over FCM Bacău in his club debut.

In addition to defeating Dinamo in the Supercupa României that year, Steaua went on to win the Romanian league title.

With Steaua, Rădoi kept having success, taking home two more championship trophies in 2005 and 2006.

He was instrumental in their UEFA Cup run, especially as a team captain against Middlesbrough in the semifinal. Rădoi’s performance and leadership were highly lauded even though they lost the tie.

Rădoi moved to the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal in 2009 and signed a three-year deal. He immediately rose to popularity among the crowd, earning the nickname “The Warrior” from his admirers.

Rădoi enjoyed success while playing for Al-Hilal, earning the Prince’s Cup and the 2010 Saudi Professional League Player of the Year awards. He stayed at the club for three years before moving on to Al Ain, where he met again with his old boss Cosmin Olăroiu.

Throughout his international career, Rădoi frequently represented Romania. He was a member of their team for the UEFA Euro 2008 and accrued 68 caps.

Unfortunately, he suffered an eye injury and a fractured nose as a result of a collision with his teammate Răzvan Raţ, forcing him to withdraw from the event. Rădoi’s commitment to the national squad was unwavering despite this loss.
