The minority leader; Haruna Iddrisu while addressing a group of journalists at Accra on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 has disclosed that Akuffo-Addo has committed a very gross diplomatic mistake.
According to him, it’s quite disheartening and disappointing to see the president watch as the Bulgarian Embassy in Accra was demolished.
The demolition which is said to abuse the rules of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 saw to the collapse of the Bulgarian Embassy which is located at East Cantonment, No.10 and on Kakramadu road. The demolition is said to have been done by a private developer.
Haruna Iddrisu has therefore expressed shock at the demolition and the government’s response to that. The staff at the Embassy and the Ambassador had protested against the demolition but it proved futile.
Haruna insisted: “We just don’t want to believe that this is happening under the watch of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, [a] former Foreign Minister, former Attorney General, [and] he can’t respect the Vienna Convention on diplomacy? We are disappointed.”
He also added that; “President Akufo-Addo is our key diplomat and he has a duty to keep our relationship with our foreign friends and neighbors [as] well. My understanding is that they have gone to demolish the Bulgarian Embassy in Ghana. This is unacceptable! And this can sever ties between Ghana and Bulgarian and its other foreign allies.”
