Who Is Michaela Kaniber?
Michaela Kaniber, born on September 14, 1977 in Bad Reichenhall, Germany, and formerly known as Michaela Brekalo, is a German politician from the Christian Social Union (CSU).
She is now the Minister of Agriculture in the Bavarian State Government as well as a member of the Bavarian Parliament.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Kaniber’s parents travelled to Germany from Yugoslavia as guest workers.
They established an inn there in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria. Her mother is from Arano, Croatia, while her father is from Prisike, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kaniber has a younger brother and an older sister.
Kaniber followed a career in tax and business consulting after graduating from St. Zeno girls’ secondary school in Bad Reichenhall in 1993. She successfully completed her training in 1996, after which she worked from that year until 2004 at a nearby tax firm. She was employed by her family’s restaurant from 2005 till 2013.
Kaniber wed a police officer in her early 20s, and the two of them have three kids. She considers herself a Roman Catholic.
Kaniber’s political career started when she voiced her displeasure with a local politician over legislation governing child upbringing. She developed a political interest as a result, and in 2006, she was appointed a youth officer.
Beginning in 2008, she also served in Bayerisch Gmain as a municipal councillor. Kaniber held a number of posts within the CSU throughout the years, including that of district chairwoman for the CSU Berchtesgadener Land and local branch chairwoman in Bayerisch Gmain.
Roland Richter’s replacement in the Berchtesgadener Land seat was Kaniber, who ran for and was elected to the Bavarian state parliament in 2013.
She participated extensively in problems concerning labour and social affairs, youth, family, integration, science, and the arts while serving on various committees in parliament.
She also served as the chair of the Laufen-Lebenau prison’s prison advisory board and as a member of the Obersalzberg documentation learning location project’s advisory board of trustees.
On March 21, 2018, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder appointed her to the position of Minister of Agriculture in the Bavarian State Government as a result of her political accomplishments.
On October 14, 2018, she was re-elected to serve as the direct mandate representative for Berchtesgadener Land, and on November 12, 2018, the Cabinet Söder II approved her appointment to that role.
Kaniber holds a number of honorary posts outside of politics, including serving as a member of the Bad Reichenhall parish’s local church council until 2014.
She belongs to the WSC Bayerisch Gmain as well as the Association for traditional costume. She has been the Chairwoman of the Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Oberbayern Southeast’s Customer Advisory Board since 2015.
Additionally, Kaniber was elected in 2013 to the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences Board of Trustees and has held the position of deputy chairperson of the Bavarian-Croatian Society since 2014.
She also serves as the State Chairwoman of the Bavarian Board of Trustees for Alpine Safety and is a member of the Obersalzberg Documentation Center’s Board of Trustees.
