Mattia Casse is a well-known name in the alpine skiing community. She was born in Moncalieri, Italy, on February 19, 1990. Originating in Oulx, and continuing the family tradition of famed speed skier Alessandro Casse, his father, Mattia has carved out a niche for himself in the world of competitive skiing with incredible skill and tenacity.
Career
Mattia Casse’s career in competitive skiing began on December 1, 2005, when he competed in a special youth slalom at Passo di Monte Croce di Comelico, marking his first race in events recognized by the FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski). Originally from Oulx, and descended from his elite athlete father, Alessandro, Mattia made a name for himself on the slopes very quickly.
In 2008, Casse stepped onto the European Cup stage, marking the beginning of his foray into international competitions. The following season saw him clinch his first international victories, securing back-to-back downhill wins in Tignes, France, in races sanctioned by FIS.On December 29, 2009, Mattia Casse made his World Cup debut. He competed in the downhill on the difficult Stelvio course in Bormio and placed 31st.
His big break came in January of the following year when he won the gold in super-G and the downhill gold at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Megève.Casse became the Italian super combined champion in La Thuile the following year. March 2012 saw him win his first European Cup downhill competition in La Thuile, continuing his winning streak.Mattia Casse competed in his first world championship in 2017 at the World Championships in Sankt Moritz.
He finished the combined event in the combined event but still managed to place 22nd in the downhill and 19th in the super-G. In the years that followed, he demonstrated his continued skill by placing 17th in the downhill, 8th in the super-G, and 27th in the combined at the Åre 2019 World Championships.
On December 17, 2022, in Val Gardena, Casse reached his first World Cup podium with an incredible third place in the downhill event. This was a huge turning point in his career.In the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel, Mattia Casse continued to showcase his skill, finishing 20th in downhill, 13th in super-G, and unfortunately not completing the combined event.
