Matthew Langford Perry is an American and Canadian actor who was born on August 19, 1969, and had a long and successful career. Perry, who is best known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom “Friends,” left a lasting impact on the entertainment business.

Biography

Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Perry had a unique upbringing after his parents divorced and his mother remarried to Canadian television journalist Keith Morrison. Raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Perry attended Rockcliffe Park Public School and Ashbury College. While pursuing his high school studies at Los Angeles’ Buckley School, he became quite interested in acting. He also honed his improv comedy abilities at L.A. Connection.

Perry’s career in show business began in 1979 with a little part in “240-Robert.” After relocating to Los Angeles, he appeared on television in several shows, including “Not Necessarily the News,” “Charles in Charge,” and “Silver Spoons.” In 1988, Perry made his screen debut in “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon.”

With the landmark sitcom “Friends,” in which he played the witty Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry’s career took off. The 1994–2004 program not only became a cultural sensation but also brought Perry praise from critics.

As a result of his meteoric rise in popularity, Perry and his co-stars made history in 2002 when they signed a ground-breaking $1 million per episode agreement. Perry pursued other endeavors even after “Friends” became a huge hit, such as “Fools Rush In,” “Almost Heroes,” and “The Whole Nine Yards.”

Perry made his theatrical acting debut in David Mamet’s “Sexual Perversity in Chicago” in London.

In 2011, Perry was executive producer, writer, producer, and actor for the comedy “Mr. Sunshine.” His continued experimentation with television is seen in the 2012 film “Go On” and the 2015–2017 revival of “The Odd Couple”. Perry’s theatrical skills were further demonstrated by his roles in “The Kennedys: After Camelot” (2017) and “The Good Wife” (2012–2013).

Perry’s autobiography, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” which provides insights into his life and work, was published in 2022. His open story struck a chord with readers, turning the memoir into a best-seller.
