Massimo Ciavarro is an acclaimed Italian actor and film producer. He was born on November 7, 1957, in Rome. At the tender age of 14, Ciavarro faced the challenges of growing up orphaned and losing his father, Domenico. Alongside his two younger sisters, he navigated the complexities of adolescence, setting the stage for a remarkable life in the spotlight.
Career
Ciavarro rose to prominence in the 1970s, especially among female audiences, as the main character in picture novels that appeared in the monthly Grand Hotel. His early fame helped him break into the Italian-style comedy scene, where he starred in Carlo Lizzani’s “Sorbole… che romagnola” (1976), “Sapore di mare 2 – Un anno Dopo” (1983), “Chewingum,” “Department Stores” (1986), and “Celluloid” (1996). Ciavarro frequently played the stereotypically attractive young man in these movies who won ladies over.
During his time away from the film industry, Ciavarro experimented with many business ventures. He started a farming business that is no longer in operation and then entered the building industry. But gradually, his love of movies drew him back—as a performer as well as a producer. Ciavarro produced movies like “Men & Women Loves & Lies” (2003) and “Marriage Agent” (2007) with the help of his ex-wife Eleonora Giorgi. Casting in “The Last Summer” (2008), a film that was filmed between Rome and Lampedusa, marked his comeback to the spotlight.
Ciavarro taught film production at Luiss University in Rome in addition to his work in movies, imparting his wisdom and expertise to prospective directors.
In September 2008, Ciavarro was a contestant on the sixth edition of “The Island of the Famous,” hosted by Simona Ventura. During his stay, he faced severe abdominal pain, leading to medical intervention and subsequent surgery.
Ciavarro kept expanding his television portfolio by starring with Massimo Boldi, Barbara De Rossi, and Enzo Salvi in the fiction series “Fratelli Benvenuti” (2010). Reentering the world of reality shows, he and his son Paolo participated in the second season of “Beijing Express” in 2013.
In 2015, Ciavarro shared his life’s journey in the autobiography titled “The Force to Change,” co-written with journalist Susanna Mancinotti
