Markus Söder can be described as a German politician serving as Minister-President of Bavaria since 2018. Markus Söder has also been the Leader of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) since 2019. He was born on January 5, 1967, in Nuremberg and he was born to a building contractor.
Markus Söder graduated from the Dürer-Gymnasium Nuremberg in 1986 and then had military service till 1987. Markus Söder had his university education at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg from 1987, with a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
While he was at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg, he read Law and passed his first state examination in 1991. He also served as a research assistant at the department of constitutional, administrative and church law at the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg.
Markus Söder was subsequently awarded a doctorate in law with a dissertation in legal history entitled “From old German Legal Traditions to a modern municipal edict: The Development of municipal legislation in Bavaria on the Right Bank of the Rhine between 1802 and 1818”. He also worked as a trainee and then as an editor with Bayerischer Rundfunk, a public-service television and radio network, based in Munich.
Markus Söder worked with Bayerischer Rundfunk between 1992 and 1994 before he was elected to the Bavarian Parliament and became a full-time politician. Over the years, Markus Söder has served on the boards of some corporate entities and these include Munich Airport, ex officio chairman of the supervisory board, Nuremberg Airport, ex officio member of the supervisory board, chairman of the supervisory board (since 2017), KfW, ex officio member of the board of supervisory directors (2011–2016), BayernLB, ex officio chairman of the supervisory board (2011–2012) and ZDF, ex officio member of the Television Board (2002–2008, 2013–2016).
He has also served in different capacities with respect to Non-profit organizations over the years. The details include Bavarian Research Foundation, ex officio member of the board of trustees, Deutsches Museum, member of the board of trustees, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU), member of the board of trustees, Staatstheater Nürnberg, member of the board of trustees, Ifo Institute for Economic Research, member of the board of trusteesm 1. FC Nürnberg, member of the supervisory board (2007–2011), member of the advisory board (since 2011) as well as Munich International Film Festival, ex officio member of the supervisory board (2011–2014).
Markus Söder has been actively involved in Bavarian politics over the years. He served as State Minister of Finance, from 2011 to 2018 and currently Minister-President of Bavaria, 2018–present.

Markus Söder is happily married to Karin Baumüller. Markus Söder and Karin Baumüller have been married since 1999. Karin Baumüller is said to be one of the owners of Nuremberg-based Baumüller Group.
The Baumüller Group is a leading manufacturer of electric automation and drive systems. Markus Söder is a member of the Protestant Church in Germany and describes himself as a believer.
He is known for his extravagant costumes during the carnival season which have included Shrek and Marilyn Monroe.
