German soprano and actress Marianne Elisabeth Felicitas Alfermann made a big impact on the entertainment and music industries. Born in Berlin on June 8, 1891, Alfermann devoted her life to perfecting her acting and singing abilities.
In 1910, after studying acting and soprano vocals, Alfermann made her stage debut at the Stadttheater Main. She performed a guest performance at the Berlin Hofoper in December 1911 after her early success.
As such, she moved away from Mainz in 1912 and joined the ensemble there, staying until 1917. Alfermann worked in Frankfurt from 1917 to 1918, then moved back to Berlin.
Alfermann sought a career in operetta and opera in Berlin. She gave several stage performances in Berlin throughout the 1920s and rose to prominence on the entertainment radio show Funk-Stunde Berlin.
She married Gustav Lombard in 1922; he later rose to the rank of Major General in the Waffen-SS and SS-Brigadeführer. The same year, they welcomed a son.
Throughout the 1920s, Alfermann’s career took off, and she landed major roles in operettas produced by Berlin Central Theater and revues directed by Hugo Hirsch. She also recorded solo and duet albums with other well-known musicians.
Marianne Alfermann, sadly, died on February 27, 1954, in the Bavarian village of Gräfelfing, at the age of 62.
