Maria von Teck was born Her Serene Highness Princess Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes of Teck. She was born on May 26, 1867, at Kensington Palace and was the wife of wife of the British King George V.
Between 1910 and 1936, Maria von Teck was the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland ( Northern Ireland from 1927 ) and Empress (Empress Consort) of British India.
She received the official title of Queen Dowager after her husband’s death. Maria von Teck was the first child of her parents.
Her parents were German-born Duke Franz von Teck and his wife Mary Adelaide of Cambridge at Kensington Palace in London.
Mary Adelaide was a granddaughter of George III. Maria von Teck was baptized on July 27, 1867, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Charles Longley, in the Chapel Royal of Kensington Palace.
Maria von Teck was raised up in contemporary manner by her mother and a governess who lived extravagantly.
When Maria von Teck found herself in Florence, she developed keen interest in art, culture and history. Regardless of the morganatic descent of Maria von Teck’s father, Queen Victoria allowed Maria von Teck to get married to her grandson, the Prince of Wales ‘ eldest son, Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale.
Maria von Teck and Prince Albert Victor got married in December 1891. Prince Albert Victor however died on January 14, 1892 due to pneumonia.

After the death of Prince Albert Victor, Maria von Teck was made to marry his younger brother , Prince George, Duke of York, on 6 July 1893 in the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace.
