Lucio Battisti was born on March 5, 1943, and he was known as an influential Italian singer, songwriter and composer. Lucio Battisti is widely recognized for songs that defined the late 1960s and 1970s era of Italian songwriting.

Between 1969 and 1994, Lucio Battisti was known to have released 18 studio albums. Most of his catalogue were translated into Spanish, English, French and German. Interestingly, Lucio Battisti was seen as an extremely reserved artist and he performed at only a small number of concerts during his entire career.

He only limited himself to the recording of studio albums as a way of speaking to the public and he was not seen often in public.
Lucio Battisti was born in Poggio Bustone but he moved to Rome with his family in 1950.

He learned to play the guitar all by himself. In the 1960s, he made his debut as a musician by performing in local bands in Rome, Naples as well as in Milan where he joined I Campioni, the support band of then singer Tony Dallara.

Lucio Battisti was introduced to lyricist Giulio Rappeti better known as Mogol. Lucio Battisti wrote three hit songs in 1966 for some artists and subsequently, Mogol decided to start working with Lucio Battisti even though he was not impressed with his music.

Per una lire was Lucio Battisti’s debut song in 1966. The song was not successful as it sold only 520 copies throughout Italy.

The US Rock group, The Grass Roots got a hit with Lucio Battisti’s composition, Balla Linda and it earned Lucio Battisti fourth place in Cantagiro.

Lucio Battisti died in a hospital in Milan. He died on September 9, 1998 due to cancer. He also suffered from glomerulonephritis. He was buried in the cemetery of Molteno.
