Kurt Eckstein was born on March 12, 1947, in Hegnenberg, near Altdorf, Germany. He is a German politician who spent a long and successful career in the Bavarian State Parliament, representing the Christian Social Union (CSU) from 1990 until 2013.
Throughout his political career, he was an important representative of the state parliament on the Bavarian Radio Broadcasting Council.
Eckstein went to primary and vocational school before attending agriculture college. After interning on a farm in Lower Franconia, he took over his parents’ property in 1972. In the same year, he finished his agricultural master’s test.
He also worked as a part-time vocational school teacher, guiding and supporting agricultural students through their basic vocational training.
His political activism began at a young age, with his participation in youth activities for the Bavarian Young Farmers’ Association, the district youth club, and the Young Union.
He started politics in 1972, serving in his hometown’s local government. He resumed his political career by serving on the city council of Altdorf, near Nuremberg, beginning in 1978. Eckstein also served in the Middle Franconia District Council from 1986 until 1990.
Kurt Eckstein was elected to the Bavarian State Parliament as a direct candidate in the Nรผrnberger Land constituency on October 14, 1990. He successfully defended his constituency in the following elections in 1994, 1998, 2003, and 2008.
He did, however, retire from active state politics in 2013, citing his age. His replacement as the constituency’s directly elected representative was Norbert Dรผnkel (CSU).
Throughout his tenure in the state legislature, Eckstein’s primary concern was agriculture and regional development.
Since 1994, he has been a member of the State Budget and Financial Affairs Committee, as well as the auditor for the CSU parliamentary party.
Kurt Eckstein has received numerous major accolades in recognition of his outstanding contribution. He won the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver in 2006, followed by the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2007.
