Born on May 28, 1962, Klaus-Jürgen “Knacki” Deuser is a well-known German comedian and presenter, most recognised for his comic programme NightWash.
Deuser was raised in Koblenz after being born in Kaiserslautern in 1962. He was an avid competitor in sports, especially athletics, and in 1981 he took part in races from 800 to 1500 metres.
He moved to Cologne and went back to school for his business degree. The Niegelungen, a comic theatrical ensemble that Deuser co-founded in 1983 with Ralf Günther and Wolfgang Lüchtrath, recorded over 1,500 shows in the ensuing eleven years.
Deuser studied acting and directing from 1987 to 2001, receiving training from well-known teachers like Susan Batson and Phil Bach. In 1992, he directed his first production, a Koblenz staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
After that, Deuser won first place at the Koblenz Children’s Theatre Festival in 1995 while serving as an MC on the RTL programme.
In the late 1990s, Deuser began directing musicals and taking on acting roles, which led to an expansion of his career into television and movies. He was notably a regular cast member of Zimmer frei! in 1999.
With the launch of the comedic project NightWash in 2000, he became well-known. NightWash has been aired on several German TV stations, such as Comedy Central, ARD, and WDR, since 2001.
Apart from his comic work, Deuser has produced radio and CD projects for well-known comedians like Holger Müller and Mario Barth.
He has served as a coach and host for several television programmes, such as Star Search and Ab in die Bütt. His first book, “How to be funny… and Can You Live Better?” was released in 2009.
Through NightWash, Deuser has been committed to supporting comedy and giving up-and-coming comics a stage throughout his career.
