Käte Alving was a German actress, radio play and voice actress, born on November 26, 1896, in Hamburg, Germany.

Käte Alving’s Biography

Acting tutors Ella Groeger in Hamburg and Ilka Grüning in Berlin taught Käte Alving. Her acting career began at the Niederdeutsche Bühne Hamburg. In 1924, she spoke at Nordische Rundfunk AG as a member of Richard Ohnsorg’s ensemble.

Alving’s work at Nordische Rundfunk AG was mostly on radio dramas in Low German. Alongside Hans Langmaack, her coworker, she also taught acting to aspiring performers like Heidi Kabel.

She started accepting guest appearances in 1936 and eventually secured permanent contracts in Berlin. She gave performances in the Deutsches Theater, Hebbeltheater, Volksbühne, and Theater am Kurfürstendamm, among other places.

Alving performed in theatre plays as well as ones for radio, television, and film. She acted in several DEFA movies, including “The Seas Are Calling” (1951), “The Hatchet of Wandsbek” (1951), and “…and if Only One Were…” (1948).

Throughout his long career, Alving has played several parts in movies spanning the 1940s to the 1960s. The films “White Laundry” (1942), “The Sonnenbrucks” (1951), “The Forbidden Paradise” (1958), and “The Ambassador” (1960) starred her.

On December 8, 1974, in West Berlin, Käte Alving departed from this life, leaving a legacy of roles in radio dramas, films, and theatre.
