Biography

Karl Bickleder was born in Bayerbach near Ergoldsbach on October 21, 1888. Karl Bickleder’s early experiences and upbringing set the stage for his future pursuits. He immersed himself in the rural way of life by pursuing agricultural training after completing elementary school. He worked hard on his parents’ farm until he was twenty years old. Through his engagement in larger businesses, he was able to obtain significant insights into the agricultural sector.

Moving to Straubing in 1909 was a significant turning point in Bickleder’s career as he started a new chapter there. He was able to contribute to the management and administration of financial issues until the end of World War II in 1945 when he was hired by the episcopal services as an economic administrator.

Karl Bickleder first entered politics in 1919 when he became a member of the Bavarian People’s Party (BVP), a political party that supported Bavarians’ interests. Because of his commitment to the party, he was able to advance through the ranks, take on leadership roles, and eventually become the chairman of the BVP in Straubing.

Bickleder’s political power grew in 1933 when he was elected to the Straubing municipal council and became a member of the German Reichstag, representing the BVP. His political activities were momentarily altered by the start of World War II, but his dedication to public service did not falter.

After the war, Bickleder changed course in his political career and served as Straubing’s district administrator from 1945 until 1955. In 1945, he also had a brief mayoralty in Straubing, where he helped steer the city through a reconstruction and transitional period.

Karl Bickleder had a major influence on the establishment of the Christian Social Union (CSU), a political party that became significant in Bavarian politics in the post-war period. Before leaving office in 1948, he led the CSU district association in Straubing through its early years and contributed to the party’s establishment there.

Beyond municipal government, Bickleder made significant political contributions to Bavaria. His participation in the Constituent State Assembly in 1946 secured him a seat in the Bavarian State Parliament.
