Biography
Julia Scheib was born in Deutschlandsberg, Styria, Austria, on May 12, 1998. At the early age of 2.5, Julia embarked on her ski trip on the Hebalm, a breathtaking location that would shape her future. Raised in the heart of the skiing community, she advanced through the ranks swiftly, winning her first children’s races at the age of four. Even at the student level, her remarkable exploits left a lasting impact, as her expertise on the slopes was unsurpassed.
Julia’s commitment to her work earned her a spot at Schladming Ski Trade School, where she honed her skills and laid the foundation for a successful future. In 2014, she participated in her maiden FIS race and won a coveted spot on the ÖSV young squad. Her career took a sharp turn for the better when she and the team won the gold medal at the European Winter Olympic Youth Festival in Vorarlberg.
Julia had a serious injury at the conclusion of the 2014–15 season when she tore the cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee. Her struggle with knee problems after her comeback tested both her physical and emotional fortitude.
The 2016 Youth Winter Olympics at Lillehammer changed Julia’s life. Her will to return to the slopes despite her previous infirmity was evident when she earned a silver medal in the Super-G.
Julia Scheib’s successful recovery was marked by her return to a full competitive season in the 2017–18 campaign. The giant slalom at Hafjell, her first race as a European Cup competitor, set the stage for her World Cup debut at Kronplatz. Even though Julia was unable to complete it, her advancement to the next round suggested what may be.
A week later, at her first Junior World Championships in Davos, she reached unprecedented heights by taking home the gold in the giant slalom. Along with her podium performance, she earned a bronze medal with the Austrian team with good downhill and super-G scores. Another significant day came on December 1, 2018, when she won her maiden European Cup in the giant slalom at Funäsdalen.
Julia earned her first World Cup point in February 2019 as she placed a very respectable 24th in the giant slalom at Maribor. Nevertheless, Pfeiffer’s glandular fever caused her to miss the start of the 2019–20 season. Despite the disappointments, Julia’s greatest World Cup performance so far came in February when she placed 14th in Kranjska Gora’s giant slalom.
Julia broke into the top ten for the first time the next season, finishing seventh in Killington to cement her status as one of the finest alpine skiers.
