German politician Johann Böhm is well-known and connected to the Christian Social Union (CSU). During his seven years in the Bavarian State Parliament (1974–2003), he made important political contributions to the region. From 1994 to 2003, he presided over the State Parliament.
Biography
Johann Böhm was born on October 18, 1937, in Dasnice, Czechoslovakia. Böhm attended primary schools in Daßnitz and Wülfershausen bei Arnstein for his early education. From 1949 to 1958, he completed his secondary school at Würzburg’s Wirsberg-Gymnasium. He then served with the Bundeswehr for the full year he was required to serve in the military. He studied political science and law at the University of Würzburg from 1959 to 1963 as part of his academic journey. From 1963 to 1967, he finished his practical legal training in Munich and Würzburg, culminating in the state examination in law.
Böhm started a career in civil service at the Government of Lower Franconia after completing the state legal test. From 1969 until 1973, he worked as a legal civil servant in the Bad Neustadt district office. Later, in August 1973, he went back to work for the Government of Lower Franconia, where he carried on with his civil service activities. In addition to his career, Böhm was involved in youth work; he was chairman of the Kreisjugendring Rhön-Grabfeld and a member of the Bezirksjugendring Unterfranken’s executive council.
In May 1978, Böhm’s political career took off after he was elected to the Rhön-Grabfeld district council. His influential career as a legislator began when he was first elected to the Bavarian State Parliament in 1974. Among his notable roles was that of President of the Bavarian State Parliament, which he held from October 1994 until his resignation in October 2003.
Under Prime Minister Max Streibl, Böhm held the positions of State Secretary and Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery from October 1990 until June 1993. After that, he served as Bavaria’s representative to the federal government and as state secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Federal and European Affairs from June 1993 until October 1994.
From March 2000 to February 2008, he was the Sudeten German ethnic group’s spokesperson. In 2007, he became the chairman of the Sudeten German Foundation. Furthermore, during the year of April 1999 to July 2020, he served as the honorary chairman of the Bavarian State Association for Assets Conservation, where he made noteworthy contributions to the preservation of cultural assets.
He was bestowed with the esteemed title of honorary chairman in August 2021. Böhm is a married, pious Roman Catholic with three kids. He has been an honorary member of the Catholic student society KDStV Markomannia Würzburg im CV since 1999. Additionally, he consults with the Bayernbund,
