Long before becoming the billionaire he is today, Craft first worked at a Pipeline company called Mapco Inc located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He managed move through the ranks and finally became head of the coal department of the company in 1986.

Before that, he was elected to become senior vice president of legal and finance in 1985. He was instrumental in the setting up of Alliance Coal LLC and subsequently played a key role in taking it public in 1999.

That same year, he became president and CEO of Alliance Resource Partners, a position he has been occupying to date.

In addition to his commitments to his job, Craft has also engaged in several philanthropic works and also shown his support for Donald Trump on many occasions.

He co-founded the Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University in 2015 with his wife, Kelly Craft. He also donated $4.8 million to the University of Kentucky in 2016 for the construction of a facility to accommodate the football management at the University.

He was inducted into the University of Kentucky College of Law Hall of Fame in 2010. Before that, he was already inducted into the University of Tulsa’s College of Business Hall of Fame in 2009 and Tulsa Hall of Fame in 2007.
