Actor Joachim Günther Król popularly known as Joachim Król is well-known for his exciting roles in theater, television, and movies. He was born in Herne, Germany, on June 17, 1957.

Joachim was born to Heinz-Günter Król, a social democrat and coal miner, and Maria Hauer. He was raised with an elder brother and a younger sister in the Horsthausen mining region. Joachim’s early perspective was probably shaped by his father’s strong sense of social justice and membership in the mining and energy industry union.

At the age of sixteen, Król experienced a pivotal moment when he attended a theater performance of Heinrich von Kleist’s “Prince Friedrich von Homburg” at the Westfälisches Landestheater.

Król began his path of action and study in 1977, following his graduation from the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium. Because of his dedication to social and political problems, he founded the political bar “Vor Ort” in Dortmund in 1981 while pursuing his studies in German and theatrical studies at the University of Cologne.

In 1981, still actively involved in the anti-nuclear movement, Król and six colleagues opened “Vor Ort.” Despite his commitment to activism, his passion for acting led him to the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich, where he studied acting from 1981 to 1984.

He began his great career in cinema with his cinematic debut in the euthanasia thriller “Cold Fever” directed by Josef Rusnak in 1984.

Known for his energetic presence in television and cinema, Król has worked with notable filmmakers like Tom Tykwer, Doris Dörrie, Hans W. Geißendörfer, Helmut Dietl, and Wim Wenders. In 1993, he became well-known across the country for his portrayal of Kipp in “We Can Do It Differently.” His roles in the films “Migratory Birds” and “It Happened in Broad Daylight”…

From “Donna Leon” to “Lutter,” Król has become a familiar face on German television, earning widespread recognition for his reserved yet compelling portrayals. In December 2009, he took on the role of Chief Inspector Frank Steier in the Frankfurt crime scene series.

Król’s influence extends beyond his performances; he played a crucial role as one of the founding members of the German Film Academy in 2003.
