He was born in the French village of Cepoy in the Loiret area and grew up with a passion for motorcycles. He began riding motorcycles at the age of 12 and went on to win the French motocross championship in 1957.
Julienne began his stunt career in film and television in 1964 with the film ‘Fantômas,’ and immediately became known as the “daredevil of French cinema.”
He described himself as a “scared little boy” with a passion for risk, and he managed to strike the perfect balance between scepticism and self-assurance over time.
Julienne appeared in almost 1,400 productions throughout his 40-year career and founded his own squad of drivers and mechanics, L’Equipe Rémy Julienne. Dominique and Michel, his two sons, joined him in his profession in the 1980s.
Julienne’s most renowned work was the 1969 film ‘The Italian Job,’ in which he directed the memorable vehicle chase sequence involving three Mini Coopers fleeing the Italian police. This pursuit scene is one of the most iconic car chases in film history, catapulting Julienne to new heights.
His abilities and reputation led to his involvement in multiple James Bond films, beginning with ‘For Your Eyes Only’ in 1981.
Julienne directed a spectacular vehicle chase through the Spanish countryside in which Bond outwits his pursuers in a yellow Citroen 2CV.
