Marco Mengoni was born on Christmas day in 1988. He is an Italian singer-songwriter born in Ronciglione, a comune in the province of Viterbo in central Italy. His parents are Nadia Ferrari and Maurizio Mengoni.
He started learning industrial design at secondary school when he was 14 years old. He also took a keen interest in singing lessons and with the passage of time, he started performing as a member of a five-piece vocal group.
While in Rome reading a course for a degree in Languages, he still worked as a barman and also performed in piano bars during weddings. Marco Mengoni also learned aspects of the recorded music business, working as a sound mixer and as a music programmer.
He became very popular in 2009 after he won the third season of the Italian talent show X Factor. Through that win, he has been able to sell over 2.8 million records in Italy and also ranked very high on the Italian albums chart seven consecutive times; entering the Top 10 Italian Singles Chart fifteen times.
He represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest in both 2013 and 2023 after winning Sanremo Music Festival in both years. His debut EP was Dove si vola and it was released in 2009 preceded by a single which served as his coronation song and also got to the top spot of the Italian Top Digital Downloads chart.
Marco Mengoni competed in the 60th Sanremo Music Festival with the song “Credimi ancora” in February 2010 and placed third out of fifteen contestants. Solo 2.0, which was his studio album was released in 2010 and was certified gold by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry.

Some of the awards won by Marco Mengoni include a Nastro d’Argento, two TRL Awards, nine Wind Music Awards, nine MTV Italian Music Awards and a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.
In 2010 and 2015, he won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best European Act and in 2013, he also won the MTV European Music Award for Best Southern European Act.
