Sinner was born on August 16, 2001, in the largely German-speaking region of South Tyrol, and grew up in Sexten, where his parents worked as a cook and a waitress at a ski resort, respectively.
Sinner began skiing and tennis at the age of three, demonstrating promise in both disciplines. From the age of eight to twelve, he was one of Italy’s top junior skiers, winning a national title in giant slalom at the age of eight. Sinner, however, opted to abandon skiing and football in favour of tennis when he was thirteen.
He relocated to the Italian Riviera to practise at the Piatti Tennis Centre with coaches Riccardo Piatti and Massimo Sartori.
Sinner began competing in professional events at the age of sixteen, despite his minimal success as a junior player. At the age of seventeen, he became one of the few players to win numerous ATP Challenger Tour titles, demonstrating his promise and talent.
