Jan Böhmermann Biography
Jan Böhmermann, born on February 23, 1981, is a prominent German satirist, journalist, and podcast and television host. He is well-known for his activism through various publicity stunts.
Böhmermann was raised in Bremen where he was born. He is a member of the German minority in Poland because his mother relocated from Poland to Germany in the 1970s.
Sadly, Böhmermann’s father died of leukaemia when he was barely 17 years old. Although he maintains his personal affairs quiet, it is known that he is the father of at least one child. He also worked as a lay judge at the Cologne district court.
At Bremen’s regional daily newspaper Die Norddeutsche, Böhmermann’s journalism career got its start in 1997.
He began working at Radio Bremen in 1999 as a reporter and moderator. He was turned down by a number of theatre schools, but he eventually was admitted to the Hanover theatre School, albeit he did not participate.
At the University of Cologne, where he was majoring in history, sociology, and theatre, film, and television studies, he also discontinued his studies there.
Böhmermann began working as a broadcaster and comedian for 1Live on WDR in 2004.
The column “Lukas’ Tagebuch” (Lukas’ Diary), which mocked the well-known Cologne professional football player Lukas Podolski, was written by him when he was working there. The lawsuit against Böhmermann by Podolski was unsuccessful.
Even during the 2006 World Cup, he declined invitations for interviews from ARD. In addition, Böhmermann introduced the well-liked podcast “Pod-Olski – Der EM-Podcast von Lukas” for the 2008 European Soccer Championship, which topped the iTunes podcast charts.
The six-part comedy series “Echt Böhmermann” by Böhmermann aired on WDR in 2007. He established the 1st TKVD, or First Turkish Carnival Club of Germany, in 2009 as a parody for the RTL show TV-Helden.
A group of Dortmund-based Turkish funfair enthusiasts were motivated by this move to create the first authentic Turkish funfair club.
His show, TV-Helden, won the German Television Award and the German Television Prize for “Best Comedy Programme” in 2009.
“Alles, alles über Deutschland – Halbwissen kompakt” (Everything, Everything About Germany – Compact Half-knowledge), Böhmermann’s debut book, was released in the same year.
He joined the ARD program’s ensemble in 2009 as part of Harald Schmidt’s show.
Additionally, until 2011, Böhmermann hosted the monthly comedy and entertainment show “Die ganz große Jan Böhmermann Radioschau” on the radio station 1Live.
