Bascha Mika can be described as a German journalist and publicist. Bascha Mika was born on January 17, 1954, and she was the editor-in-chief of Die Tageszeitung from 1998 till July 2009. Bascha Mika has also served as the editor-in-chief of Frankfurt Rundschau since April 2014.
While at Tageszeitung, it must be noted that Bascha Mika was the only female editor-in-chief of a national newspaper in Germany.Bascha Mika was born in Komprachcice near Opole in Upper Silesia . However, in 1959 Bascha Mika and her family relocated to West Germany. After completing school, she was involved in bank apprenticeship and she spent three years serving at the Deutsche Bank located in Aachen.
Bascha Mika had her University education in Bonn and Marburg and she read Ethnology, German, Philosophy as well as Africa. While in school, Bascha Mika worked in radio and numerous newspapers. She decided to pursue journalism as her career in her thirties.
She became the editor-in-chief of Tageszeitung after working for a decade and later left in July 2009. She has been associated with the Berlin University of the Arts since 2007 as a Professor. She was the joint head of the Cultural Journalism course of the University until March 2014. She also worked with Arnd Festerling for a while.
Bascha Mika’s publication of the biography of Alice Schwarzer in 1998 created a lot of controversy. This was because of the ambivalent analysis of Alice Schwarzer as a person. According to Bascha Mika, Alice showed contempt for women and was also hostile.
Bascha Mika served as a member of the Media Council of the Berlin-Brandenburg Media Institute between 2003 and 2009. She is also on the Board of Trustees of Journalists Network. It must also be noted that since 2018, she has been on the Board of Trustees for the Peace Prize.
