Greta Thunberg can be described as a Swedish environmental activist. She was born on January 3, 2003, and she is widely recognized as the young activist that challenges world leaders across the world to do something about controlling climate change.

Greta Thunberg’s drive for climate activism got to a start when she had to convince her parents to take up a lifestyle that would reduce the family’s carbon footprint. She started missing classes on August 20, 2018, when she was 15 years just to influence the outcome of the Swedish election.

Her call was for a stronger action on climate change and she protested outside the Swedish parliament. During the protest, she had a placard reading School Strike for Climate and she also distributed informational flyers on climate change. She addressed her supporters after the election as they filmed her with their phones revealing her resolve to continue school striking for climate every Friday.

She intended to continue with the strike till Sweden becomes compliant with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. The youthful nature as well as her blunt-speaking made her recognized and expedited her rise to global icon status. Greta Thunberg addressed the 2018 United Nations Climate Change Conference and afterwards, she continued with the Friday protests. Over a million students were involved in multiple coordinated protests across cities in 2019.

She sailed on a carbon-free yacht from England to New York City to avoid carbon-intensive flying. In New York City, she addressed the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit. With time, Greta Thunberg became a leader in the climate activist community. Regardless she was also criticized and mocked as being a naive teenager.

Over the years, due to her activism, Greta Thunberg has won and received several awards and honors. She graduated from high school in June 2023. She was once arrested and convicted. However, she continues protesting and pushing politicians, corporations and organizations over the failure to adequately tackle the issue of climate change and its effects on the world.

Greta Thunberg does not have a luxurious lifestyle. Whenever she has to travel, she does not fly. She is a vegan and she does not buy things just anyhow. She has the philosophy that you don’t buy and consume new things unless you absolutely have to . Her lifestyle is to walk the talk and practise what she preaches.

The parents of Greta Thunberg are Opera singer, Malena Ernman and actor, Svante Thunberg. The actor and director Olof Thunberg is her paternal grandfather.

Greta Thunberg first heard about climate change when she was just eight years old and was quite surprised about how much work had not gone into climate change. As a result, she got depressed and at age 11, she lost 10 kilograms as she had stopped talking and eating much food.
