Hansi Burg was a German actress whose life is a testament to her resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
Hansi Burg’s Biography
Hansi Burg was a well-known German-Austrian actress who was born in Vienna on February 12, 1898, and is also Hans Albers’ girlfriend. Her father, Eugen Burg, was a renowned theatre director and performer, and her mother, Emmy Burg-Raabe, was a successful coloratura soprano.
She was raised in an artistic household. Her father owned the German Theatre in New York, where Hansi Burg spent her formative years. In 1917, she started working as a theatre actress in Berlin, where Heinrich Bolten-Baeckers was her director.
She became closer to her coworker Hans Albers, who also worked at the Trianon Theatre, during her tenure there. After a while, they got married and moved into a grand Wannsee villa together.
But with the rise of the Nazi government, their connection was put to the test. Because of Hansi Burg’s Jewish heritage, they were watched and persecuted by racial ideologists and the Nazi propaganda minister.
The professional prohibition Hans Albers had been subjected to was lifted in 1935 when he announced his divorce from Hansi Burg. To bolster this assertion, Hansi Burg married Norwegian citizen Erich Blydt as a convenience.
Later, in 1939, she fled for exile in London without telling Albers beforehand because of growing social and legal slander.
Hansi Burg went back to Hans Albers following Germany’s surrender, and the two remained close until his passing in 1960. Despite a flurry of inheritance challenges in the years after Albers’s death, Burg was eventually granted the Garatshausen villa and other assets.
Living a private life, she sold the home to the Free State of Bavaria in 1971 with the understanding that it would be used for public leisure activities.
Hansi Burg died on March 14, 1975, and her body is interred at the former Tutzing parish church cemetery. Her remaining possessions were left to the Lebenshilfe e.V. organisation, which offers assistance to people with impairments.
