Hans Bodensteiner was born in Rückersrieth on November 18, 1912. Political science and law were the first subjects studied by Hans Bodensteiner in his academic career, which served as the basis for his eventual career in politics. Hans Bodensteiner demonstrated his devotion to duty and service by serving as a soldier during the turbulent years of World War II. In 1946, Bodensteiner became a post-war administrator when the war ended. He served as the district administrator for the Neustadt a der Waldnaab district until October 24, 1949.
As a deputy of the Christian Social Union (CSU) in the Tirschenreuth constituency, Hans Bodensteiner was elected to the German Bundestag in 1949, marking his first foray into national politics.
Together with other well-known individuals like Helene Wessel and Gustav Heinemann, Bodensteiner was instrumental in the creation of the All-German People’s Party (GVP) in November 1952. In his capacity as the GVP’s federal manager, Bodensteiner worked to promote cooperation and communication across political lines while promoting inclusive governance and standing up for the rights of a wide range of individuals.
The GVP encountered several obstacles despite his best efforts, most famously his inability to clear the five percent threshold in the 1953 federal election. Distraught by the loss and the changing political climate, Hans Bodensteiner had to make the painful choice to step down as GVP and thereafter go from active politics.
