Biography
Diercks was born on September 1, 1890. At the renowned Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Diercks had her stage debut as a young actor, marking the beginning of her career in acting. She performed on stage from 1902 until 1909, captivating audiences with her natural skill and intuitive charisma. She joined the acting ensemble at the juvenile age of 11. Despite not having had any professional instruction in acting, her love of theater persisted and she kept going for possibilities in the performing arts.
Diercks started a new phase in her career in 1912, polishing her craft in the Riga theater. After her stay in Riga, she traveled to Berlin and started doing theater there, doing shows at the prestigious theater on Königgrätzer Straße. She occasionally took up roles as a vocalist, most famously playing the title character in Eduard Mörike’s operetta “Prinzessin Herzlieb” about 1914, demonstrating her flexibility as an artist even further.
With the end of World War I, Diercks found success in the film industry, landing many supporting parts in German movies. In addition to F.W. Murnau’s “La Terre qui flambe,” these roles included those in Ernst Lubitsch’s “Carmen” and “Intoxication.” She was most known for playing Afra in the first motion picture adaption of the well-known high mountain drama “Die Geierwally” by E.A. Dupont.
Diercks continued to be committed to the theater even after her film career took off. She graced Berlin’s Komödienhaus and Lustspielhaus stages with her presence in plays like “The Tsarina” by Melchior Lengyel and Lajos Biró and “The Werewolf” by Angelo Cana.
