Giovanni Di Marzio was an Italian football coach, sports manager and television commentator. He was born on January 8, 1940and he is known to have coached teams such as Catanzaro in Serie A, Napoli and Catania, between the seventies and eighties.

At the time Giovanni Di Marzio was actively involved in coaching, he began writing a column for l’Unità  in 1978 and also served as a commentator on RMC Sport Network, TMW Radio Sport and the Neapolitan radio station Radio Marte.

It must be noted that Giovanni Di Marzio stopped playing football early due to injury. The coaching debut of Giovanni Di Marziowas when he took over from Arnaldo Sentimenti at the helm of Internapoli .

The team drew against Chieti, in the then Serie C . Between 1977 and 1979 when Giovanni Di Marzio was at Napoli, he helped the team to place fifth in the league. This gave the team the opportunity for a UEFA placing.  

The team however lost against Inter in an Italian Cup final in Rome. Later in the second season, he was replaced by Luís Vinício.

Giovanni Di Marzio became the coach of Genoa in Serie B between 1979 and 1980. He was in charge of  Lecce in Serie B from 1980 to 1982.  

Giovanni Di Marzio is a two-time winner of the Golden Sower Award given to the best coach of the season in each category. He got the first award for the 1971- 1972 season with Nocerina in Serie C and the second as coach of Catanzaro in Serie B in the year 1975-1976.

He was also the proud recipient of the Saraceno Prize in Amalfi as part of the Football Leader event, organized by the Italian Football Coaches Association on June 4, 2015.

Giovanni Di Marzio worked with Cosenza as sporting director and worked alongside As sporting director he also worked with president Maurizio Zamparini’s Venezia from 1996 to 1998. Giovanni Di Marzio joined the management staff of Palermo as personal advisor to President Maurizio Zamparini from April 7, 2016.

Gianni Di Marzio Cause of Death

Gianni Di Marzio is reported to have died on January 22, 2002. He died in Padua. He was 82 years old at the time of his death. The cause of his death is yet to be updated.
