The Member of Parliament for Adaklu Constituency and ranking member of the roads and transport committee in parliament; Governs Agbodza has recently commented on the Electricity Company Of Ghana(ECG) cutting out power supply on certain parts of the Kotoka International Airport.
According to him, The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) of the Kotoka International Airport has misplaced priorities. The mp quizzes the company for purchasing Christmas trees to decorate the Terminal 2 and 3 of the KIA at a cost of GHS128,366 while it had a debt of GHS49 million to pay to the ECG.
The GACL had earlier this year in January been engaged in a nationwide controversy where the company was alleged to have purchased Christmas trees at a cost of GHS128,366 to decorate it terminals. The company however, came public to refute the allegations and rather revealed that it paid GHS82,000 instead.
The company on Monday, 14th March, 2022 also made headlines as ECG took electricity power from certain parts of the KIA over arrears owed them. According to the minority the GACL should be scrutinized as current happenings are not encouraging.
The Adaklu mp while speaking at an interview on Joy News revealed that; “If we did not have money to pay electricity bills, why the hell were we seeing Christmas trees costing about ¢100,000 at the terminal buildings.”
He also added that; “Maybe we need to combine all of it considering the circumstances surrounding the purchase of the Christmas tree and why they couldn’t pay their bills until the power was cut off. So that perhaps there may be a much more endemic miscarriage of management going on there that we don’t know.”
“We need to know the conditions under which those were approved and how come Ghana Airports Company Limited is yet to give the same approval. We need to know. The committee can’t decide that we’ve been there; I’m sure the public is waiting to hear from us”, Mr.Governs highlighted.
It has however been reported that GACL had opted to pay GHS1 million out of the debt owed however, the taskforce of the ECG believes it is not enough. The taskforce is demanding a half payment by the GACL.
