Gabi Tamas Biography
Gabriel Sebastian Tamaș, commonly known as Gabi Tamaș, is a Romanian professional footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Concordia Chiajna in Liga II.
Tamaş, who was born on November 9th, 1983, has had a long and fruitful career, representing various clubs both domestically and internationally.
With FC Brașov in the second tier, Tamaş started his professional career at the age of 25. Then, in the years after joining Tractorul Brașov, he moved on to play for Dinamo București in 2002.
Tamaş moved to the Turkish club Galatasaray after spending a season there. He joined Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League in 2004, but the following year he was loaned back to Dinamo București. Tamaş also spent a full season on loan at Spanish club Celta Vigo.
The Romanian defender later transferred to Ligue 1’s Auxerre before coming back to Dinamo București on loan, where he was chosen as captain by his squad.
Tamaş committed to a three-year deal with English Championship team West Bromwich Albion in 2010. In a match against Reading in March of that same year, he earned his first goal since making his club debut in January 2010.
Tamaş returned to Romania after his spell in England, and in 2015 he agreed to a two-year deal with Steaua București.
Later, he participated in the Championship with Cardiff City before returning to Steaua București. Tamaş has previously played for Hapoel Haifa, Astra Giurgiu, Voluntari, Petrolul Ploiești, and Concordia Chiajna in Romania and Hapoel Haifa and Astra Giurgiu in Israel.
Tamaş represented Romania for 15 years on the international stage, amassing 67 caps and tallying three goals.
He was a member of the team that competed in the 2008 UEFA Euros. Tamaş participated in all three of Romania’s group-stage games against France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
