Biography

Fritz Kampers was born and raised in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, on July 14, 1891. His father is a hotel owner in Munich. After finishing high school, he started taking acting lessons with Richard Stury and a business apprenticeship in a Munich textile store. His ambitions in theater were paved with this.

His career as a theater actor started with performances at the Alhambratheater and other tiny Munich districts. His travels through small-town theaters brought him to performances in Aachen, Lucerne, Sondershausen, Alzey, and Helmstedt. Kampers was a cavalryman on the eastern front at the start of World War I.

Kampers’s cinema career began when he met director Franz Seitz in 1917 while serving as an usher at the Munich Volkstheater. Between 1917 and 1920, he made many appearances in early motion pictures. He co-starred with esteemed colleague Albert Steinrรผck in “The Volkstyrann,” where he directed and performed.

In 1920, Kampers moved to Berlin and broadened his views. He was cast as a villain in films by Gustav Althoff’s company and appeared on the stages of prestigious theaters such as the German Theater and the Kleinen Schauspielhaus. Kampers experimented with cabaret as well, contributing to “Die Wilde Bรผhne” by Trude Hesterberg.

Fritz Kampers had a metamorphosis in the middle of the 1920s, choosing to specialize in comedic character acting. Audiences grew to love him for his representations of strong, funny characters who frequently had Bavarian roots. With relative ease, Kampers transitioned to the sound cinema industry, landing prominent parts in Max Obal’s “The Merry Musicians” (1930) and GW Pabst’s critically praised “West Front 1918” (1930) and “Comradeship” (1931).

Many filmmakers fled their country of origin when the Nazis took control in 1933. But Kampers kept up his acting career at this time, directing two movies, “Konjunkturritter” (1933โ€“34) and “I Sing ‘into My Heart” (1934). Kampers appeared to shy away from propaganda movies after 1942, even though he had acted in Nazi propaganda movies like “The Four Musketeers” (1934) and “In the Name of the People” (1939).

Fritz Kampers was hired for post-war movies including “Schwarzwaldmรคdel” (1950) and “Sensation in Savoy” after World War II.
