His encounter with Max Reinhardt, a legendary character in German drama, was a turning point in his life. They shared the stage at the Deutsches Theater and their friendship went beyond the footlights. He demonstrated his ability to lead and direct art when he took over as director of the Volksbühne Berlin from 1918 to 1923, following in Reinhardt’s footsteps.
Friedrich Kayssler’s creative accomplishments extended beyond the theater; the Reich Ministry for People’s Education and Propaganda, operating under Adolf Hitler’s direction, recognized him on the Gottbegnadeten-Liste. This acknowledgment highlighted his recognized importance in the culture at the time.
