Franziska van Almsick is a former German swimmer. Franziska van Almsick was born on April 5 , 1978, in East Berlin and she is a multiple world and European champion. She has been the deputy chairwoman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Sporthilfe since 2010.
She is said to have started swimming at the age of 5 and two years later, she got the chance to be admitted to the East Berlin swimming training center – today’s Berlin School and Competitive Sports Center. She later attended a children’s and youth sports school (KJS) and at age 11, she won nine gold medals at the Children’s and Youth Spartakiade.
Franziska van Almsick was also the winner at the Junior European and World Championships. She has been training under the tutelage of head coach Norbert Warnatzsch at SG Neukölln Berlin since 1996. Prior to that she trained with Dieter Lindemann at SC Berlin.
Over the years, Franziska van Almsick has had an impressive and successful career as a German swimmer.
