His stints as the CEO of Austro Olivetti in Vienna and British Olivetti in London were early indicators of his prowess in economic turnarounds.

In October 1993, Tatò assumed the position of CEO at the Fininvest Group, where he remained until February 1995. His arrival, often referred to as “Kaiser Franz,” was a turning point for Fininvest, the second most indebted company in Italy at the time. Tatò’s management was viewed positively by major Italian banking groups and creditors of Fininvest.

From 2003 to 2014, Tatò took on the role of CEO at the Treccani Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana, steering it through a challenging market dominated by digital giants. Under his leadership, Treccani digitized over a million articles, offering them to the public for free. The portal became a hub of cultural and educational services.

Appointed by BSA, the Besnier family holding firm, he presided over the Parmalat board of directors. At Berco, a division of the Thyssen Krupp Group, he was responsible for managing a large-scale restructuring initiative.

Tatò showed his leadership agility and adaptability by serving as a director of the Coesia Group of Bologna since 2002 and as a member of several boards, such as XY-WORLDWIDE and Consultinvest Partecipazioni SpA.
