There are many female musicians in Ghana, some of which started out early and others which came into the industry recently. This article brings you a list of most of the female gospel artistes in the country, a few details about them as well as the songs they have sang.
MAMA ESTHER
Mama Esther is a gifted motivational gospel musician who hails from Ankase in the Ashanti Region. She attended Tafo L/A Primary and Sepase Middle School. A few of her songs are:
Judge Kasa, Mene Yehowa, Goliath Beko, Nea Aba Biara.
DIANA ASAMOAH
Diana Asamoah is well known for her touching music and performance in Ghana and beyond. She is a producer, presenter and evangelist. She started her music career in 1990. She has won awards in Italy and Belgium for being the Best Gospel Artiste in Ghana in 2006 and 2008. Diana Asanmoah also hosts an annual concert with the theme:
”Abba Father”.
Some of her songs are:
Akoko Abon, Pentecost Gya, Wo na M’ani Agyina, Abraham, Anopa Wim.
STELLA DUGAN
Stella Dugan is also a well known gospel artiste in this country, especially known for her unique voice tone. Her origin is Boso Anum in the Eastern Region. She started her music journey in 1980 and has sang many songs some of which are:
Gye Me Taata, Ebenezer, Ayeeyi Nwom, Okura Yemu, Oye Nyame.
She is an HND holder from the Accra Polytechnic. Stella Dugan is known to be good at playing the guitar.
DAUGHTERS OF GLORIOUS JESUS
Edna Sarpong, Monica Owusu Ansah and Cynthia Appiadu together form the group “Daughters of Glorious Jesus”. They come from the Ashanti Region and were raised in an orphanage home. They improved upon their gifts of singing when they were at the Resurrection Power Church. Daughters of Glorious Jesus began in 1989 and have won fifteen awards.
A few of these awards are:
The Best Gospel Groups in 1992, in 1996 Cynthia won the Best Female Vocalist with the song:Nea Yehu. Also in 2004, they won two awards in Ghana Music Awards.
Some of the songs they have sang are:
Bebre, Ahintabea, Jesus is King, Yesu Mo, Aseda, Okasapreko.
DIANA HAMILTON
She is a popular Ghanaian gospel musician who began her music career in 2007. Diana is also a nurse by profession and is from the Ashanti Region of Ghana. She is based in the United Kingdom. Her first song was “Osoro Be Kasa”.
A few of her songs are:
Work in Progress, Mo ne Yo, Nsenkyerene Nyankopon, W’asem, Adom.
ESTHER SMITH
She is a Ghanaian gospel musician born at Suame in the Ashanti Region. She joined the Tesano Methodist Church Choir when she was 14 years and from there began taking a path in music. Her first album was “Gye No Di”and she won the Gospel Album of the Year in 2003, along with Gospel Artiste of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.

Nipa, Nyame Aguama, Onyame Ye Nyame, Mawon San, Adze Ko
BERNICE OFFEI
This gospel artiste is not only a musician but also a Banker. She comes from the Greater Accra Region. Bernice Offei attended University of Ghana, Legon and that is where she had her degree. She attained Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the year by VGMA. This was in 2009.

CECILIA MARFO
She is a popular gospel artiste in this country. She is a prophetess as well. She comes from Kumasi. She has a worship centre known as Osorfie located around Tema. She won the Gospel Song of the Year, Gospel Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year Awards with her “Faithfulness” album including these songs:”Afununu Ba” and ”Mammre Angu”
A few of her songs are:
Afunumu Ba, Ne Din, Wo ye Kanea, Wofata.
OBAAPA CHRISTY
She was previously known as Christiana Love. She began her music journey in 2000 and has since come out with many songs. She comes from the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Obaapa has walked home with the Best Female Vocal Performance award at the Ghana Music Awards.
A few of her songs are:
Hyebre sesafo, Metease, Mesu Afre Awurade, W’asue Me. Ma Enye Yie.
CELESTINE DONKOR
She is not only a gospel musician but also a songwriter and began her career in music in 2007. Celestine comes from the Volta Region of Ghana. She graduated from the University of Ghana,Legon. Celestine has received some awards for her music.
She was featured in a number of songs like: “Hena ne M’adamfo Pa” by Rev.Prince Nyarko , “Go High” by Philipa Baafi among others.
Some of her songs are:
Manim Nguase, Oguama, Boboobo, Adom ne Ahunumoboro, Wo ye ma me.
