Jessy Wellmer Biography
Jessy Wellmer is a German journalist and television presenter born on December 5, 1979, in Güstrow.
Her parents, who were both teachers, raised her in Güstrow, East Germany. Her mum was a Russian teacher. Wellmer had the chance to spend a year abroad in New Zealand when she was in school.
Wellmer studied social and corporate communication at the University of the Arts in Berlin after graduating from high school, where she received a certificate. She then earned her degree from Babelsberg’s ems-school for electronic media.
She began working for Rbb and other media organisations during this period. She hosted the sports segment of the ZDF Morning magazine from 2009 to 2014.
Wellmer and Andreas Ulrich have been co-hosting the Arena Liga Live programme on radioeins on Saturdays since August 2013. She began presenting the Sunday sports show in September 2014.
Since the start of the 2017–18 Bundesliga season, Wellmer has also hosted the Saturday sports show. She has covered a variety of sporting occasions, such as the Olympic Games and the world and European championships of football.
Alongside Philipp Köster, Wellmer has also moderated the sports programmes “11 Freunde TV” and “rbb Sportplatz” on rbb television. She was also a member of the rbb Aktuell late edition moderator team.
Wellmer and Sascha Hingst co-hosted the ARD lunchtime magazine from January 2018 to November 2019.
She has been the host of the ARD talk and news format “Sportschau Thema” since June 2019. She co-hosted “Here Speaks Berlin” on the first channel with Eva-Maria Lemke from October 2019 to April 2021.
In Wellmer’s career, there have been a number of noteworthy events. Under the direction of rbb, she debuted the special programme “ARD Extra” on April 13th, 2020. In 2021, she and Bastian Schweinsteiger co-hosted the European Football Championship.
She worked as a studio host for the Olympics in Tokyo and will do the same at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. She oversaw the broadcasts from the ARD World Cup studio for the 2022 World Cup.
Wellmer has had a radio career in addition to her work on television. She and Andreas Ulrich have been co-hosting the radio programme “Arena Liga Live” on Saturdays since 2013.
Wellmer has two kids and is married. In Berlin-Charlottenburg, she resides. She has made it known in her private life that she supports the German football team Hansa Rostock.
In general, Jessy Wellmer has had a fruitful career in Germany as a journalist and television host. She has emceed several sporting occasions and programmes, and her efforts have been honoured with honours such as 2017 Journalist of the Year (Sport).
