DJ Ötzi was born on January 7, 1971. DJ Ötzi can be described as an  Austrian pop and Schlager singer. It must be known that his career has been a huge success mainly in German-speaking countries. So far as the the English-speaking world is concerned, he is known for his 2000 single “Hey Baby (Uhh, Ahh)”, a cover version of the Bruce Channel song “Hey! Baby”.

His name, DJ Ötzi, originates from Ötzi the Iceman, the name given to the 5,300-year-old frozen remains of a mummified man discovered in 1991 in South Tyrol’s Ötztal Alps. DJ Ötzi was born to Anton Friedle but his mother gave him up for adoption.

His mother was then just 17 years old. In the village of Erpfendorf in Tirol, DJ Ötzi was raised up by foster parents and later by his paternal grandparents. It must be noted that in the early stage of the life of DJ Ötzi, he suffered from epilepsy and at age 6, he became homeless and had to make life on the streets.DJ Ötzi worked as a student cook and then he started working as an entertainer (animateur), DJ and singer in discothèques around Austria, as well as in tourist destinations Mallorca and Turkey after he was discovered at a karaoke competition.

He released the single “Anton aus Tirol” in 1999 and it became number one in Austria and Germany. It was number two in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland and it must be noted that the song spent 75 weeks in the Austrian charts and was number one for ten weeks.

DJ Ötzi also worked on a cover version of Bruce Channel’s 1962 song “Hey Baby” in July 2000 which became number in Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom. He worked on a cover version of “A Ram Sam Sam”, called the “Burger Dance”, in 2003 and he became very successful with Volksmusik hit “Sieben Sünden” in 2006 which became a number 2 hit in Austria.

Ötzi suffered a severe form of conductive hearing loss prior to the birth of his daughter in 2002.
