Italian singer-songwriter Antonio Diodato, known by his stage name Diodato, was born on August 30, 1981. Born in Aosta and hailing from Taranto, he adopted Rome as his home.
Diodato’s musical journey began in Stockholm, collaborating with Swedish DJs Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello. Upon returning to Italy, he earned a degree in cinema, television, and new media from the DAMS at Roma Tre University.
Diodato cites influential artists such as Pink Floyd, Fabrizio De André, Luigi Tenco, Domenico Modugno, and Radiohead. His discography includes four studio albums: “And Maybe I’m Crazy” (LeNarcisse/Goodfellas), “A Recovering Beauty” (LeNarcisse/RCA/SonyMusic), “What Have We Become,” and “What a Wonderful Life.”
In December 2013, Diodato participated in the Sanremo Festival 2014’s “New Proposals” section with the song “Babilonia.” His performance earned him second place, and he received the quality jury prize chaired by Paolo Virzì.
Diodato’s success continued, winning several awards in 2014, including the MTV Italian Music Awards for Best New Generation, The Deezer Band Of The Year Award, and the Fabrizio de André Award for his reinterpretation of “Amore che ordini, Amore che vai.”
In 2016, he assumed the role of artistic director for the May Day concert in Taranto, collaborating with Roy Paci and Michele Riondino. The year 2017 saw the release of his third studio album, “What We Have Become,” under Carosello Records.
Diodato participated in the 2018 Sanremo Festival with the song “Adesso,” performed alongside trumpeter Roy Paci, securing an eighth-place finish. His artistic versatility extended to acting in 2019 with his debut in the film “Un’avventura,” directed by Marco Danieli.
The pinnacle of Diodato’s career came in 2020 when he clinched victory at the Sanremo Music Festival with the song “Fai rumore.” This success earned him the opportunity to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, a plan thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the cancellation, he performed at the Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light event.
