Biography
Diana Amft is a renowned German actress and children’s book author. She was born on November 7, 1975, in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Diana Amft grew up in Herzebrock-Clarholz near Gütersloh.
She trained as a legal assistant at the Rheda-Wiedenbrück District Court after completing her education. She also took singing classes in Bielefeld around this period. After twelve failed applications to theater schools and an early rejection from the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, she was finally admitted at the age of 20 to the Zerboni Theater School in Munich.
Amft made her acting debut by making appearances at several theaters, including the Munich Kammerspiele. In 1999, she starred with Mina Tander in the TV thriller Unschuldige Biester, which was her debut television performance.
Her breakthrough came in 2001 when she portrayed Inken in Dennis Gansel’s adolescent comedy Mädchen, Mädchen (Girls on Top). Due to the popularity of the original film, Amft collaborated with the girl group Tears on the song “Funky Freakshow” for the sequel, Mädchen, Mädchen 2 – Loft or Liebe (2004).
Her most iconic role came in RTL’s award-winning series Doctor’s Diary – Männer sind die beste Medizin (2008–2011), where she portrayed Dr. Gretchen Haase. The show earned her critical acclaim and awards such as the Grimme-Preis and Bayerischer Fernsehpreis.
In cinema, she appeared in films such as Frisch gepresst (2012), Im weißen Rössl – Wehe Du singst! (2013), and Der Junge muss an die frische Luft (2018).
In addition to acting, Diana Amft is an accomplished children’s book author. Her debut book, Die kleine Spinne Widerlich (The Little Spider Lovely), was published in 2011 with illustrations by Martina Matos. The series has been translated into over ten languages and expanded to nine volumes by 2022.
