On August 23, 1945, Carmen-Maja Antoni was born in Berlin, in the tumultuous aftermath of World War II. Soon after her birth, her father, Pedro Antoni, an artist, abandoned the family, leaving her mother, Ursula Antoni-Orendt, to raise her alone.
Antoni began her acting career at a young age, appearing on national television for the first time when she was eleven years old.
Her performance as the young “Grusche” in Bertolt Brecht’s “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” earned her notice after she graduated from the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg and joined Potsdam’s Hans Otto Theatre.
After that, she joined Berlin’s People’s Theatre, and since 1976, she has been a part of the Berliner Ensemble Theatre Company.
Antoni has acted in a lot of radio plays, movies and stage plays over the years. She has gained popularity for her distinctive voice and established herself as a well-known television personality throughout German-speaking central Europe.
Her portrayal of Karin von Lomanski in the enduring ZDF crime drama series Rosa Roth was one of her most prominent performances.
