Early Life
Her mother, Elsie Hopkins, was a former housewife, and her father, Glyndŵr Hopkins, was a coal miner who fought in World War II. Tyler’s siblings’ different musical tastes from Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley to the Beatles meant that she was exposed to a wide variety of music while growing up in a four-bedroom council house with three sisters and two brothers.

Her hit singles “More Than a Lover” and “Lost in France” helped pave the way for her 1977 breakthrough song “It’s a Heartache,” which reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number four on the UK Singles Chart.
During the 1980s, Tyler collaborated with producer and composer Jim Steinman on several iconic hits, such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” These songs brought attention to her amazing voice and propelled her to international recognition.
Dieter Bohlen wrote songs like “Bitterblue,” which helped Tyler maintain his popularity throughout the 1990s, particularly in continental Europe. In 2003, she produced a new version of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” with vocalist Kareen Antonn, which went on to become hugely successful in France.
In the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, Tyler sang “Believe in Me,” a song from her album “Rocks and Honey,” to represent the United Kingdom. The albums “Between the Earth and the Stars” (2019) and “The Best Is Yet to Come” (2021) that were published in the years that followed served as excellent examples of her ongoing talent and diversity.
She has received three Grammy Award nominations and three Brit Award nominations, including two for British Female Solo Artist. In 2022, she was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her significant services to music.
