Bert Goebel can be said to be a former German swimmer. He was born on July 14, 1963 in Mönchengladbach. His height is said to be 1.89 meters and his weight is 86 kilograms.
It must be noted that before Bert Goebel became an established swimmer, he started off at SSV Rheydt. When he was just 10 years old, he won the 200 m breaststroke in Fulda in 1973.
That was his first time and he became the German youth champion. Due to his exploits and performance, Bert Goebel was included in the youth squad of the German Swimming Association for several years.
Emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that his national and international career began and blossomed after he made a move to TSV Bayer Dormagen. He subsequently also completed his military service.
The military service was with the Bundeswehr sports support group in Warendorf. In both 1986 and 1987, Bert Goebel became the German champion in the 100 m breaststroke. In his 1986 win, he set a new German record time.
He made appearances at the 1985, 1987 and 1989 European Swimming Championships. Bert Goebel won the silver medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay when he participated at the 1986 World Championships in Madrid.
Other members of the 4 × 100 m medley relay team were Frank Hoffmeister, Michael Groß and André Schadt.
He is currently a freelance software developer in Berlin and ended his career as a swimmer in Berlin with Wasserfreunde Spandau 04.
