Arthur Heina can be said to be a German swimmer and Olympian. It must be noted that Arthur Heina was born on February 22, 1915. and he was a member of the club known as SV Gladbeck 1913 as well as Poseidon Recklinghausen before he started representing Germany in international competitions.
When Arthur Heina was quite active in swimming as a career, he was said to have won the German championship in the 200-meter breaststroke on two different occasions. The first time was in 1935 and in 1939, he repeated the feat.
It needs to be noted that Arthur Heina qualified for the semi-finals at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. He made a time of 2:48.5 minutes and subsequently improved it to 2:47.3 minutes. Arthur Heina however did not make it to the final as it was the best 7 that made it. He placed 8th.
Arthur Heina set a world record in the 400-meter breaststroke and this was at Copenhagen in 1938. He recorded a time of 5:43.8 minutes to set the world record. Arthur Heina also set the world record with respect to the 500-meter breaststroke with a time of 7:13 minutes in 1939.
These two records were only broken in 1948 by a Dutch swimmer called Bob Bronte in Amsterdam.
After a successful career in switching, Arthur Heina later served as a style judge.
