Andy Ritter, lovingly known as Andy by his friends and family, was a man who cherished his loved ones, beer brewing, rugby, and life itself.

He tragically passed away at the young age of 31 after a struggle with ALS, popularly known as Lou Gehrig’s illness.

People who knew Andy still carry his memories with them, and an annual memorial beer is created in his honour to celebrate his life. The beer of choice this year is Apricot Wheat, a delicious and energising beverage that perfectly embodies Andy’s personality.

The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), a group dedicated to discovering medicines to prevent and reduce the progression of this dreadful disease, is supported by the sales of this beer.

The Apricot Wheat is another wheat beer that has a specific position in the production repertoire. The goal of this beer is to make it simple to drink and incredibly delightful.

To honour Andy’s life, the brewery is inviting everyone to raise a glass and say his favourite toast: ‘Drink beer, slay dragon!’ On September 9, this unique beer will be served in the taproom and may also be ordered online.

On September 10th, a beer festival called the Ales for ALSTM Festival will be held as part of the ongoing celebration of Andy’s life.

Visitors to this festival get the chance to sample beers from more than 40 local breweries while also making a large donation to a worthwhile cause.

Andy Ritter, who was born on January 11th, 1916, lived in West Point. On January 13, 2013, at the West Point Living Centre, he sadly passed away.

Reverend Frank Lordemann presided over his burial mass, which was performed on Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey.

After the service, Andy was buried in St. Boniface Cemetery. The Knights of Columbus Rosary was recited at the wake ceremonies, which were held on Wednesday night at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point.

West of West Point, on the family farm, Andy was raised and went to St. Boniface Catholic School. He assumed control of the family’s cattle-feeding business after his father passed away.

Andy contributed his singing talents to the church choir at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he was an enthusiastic member.

He was an active member of the Cuming County Feeders Association and the Cuming County Rural Water District, where he served for 37 years. He was also a dedicated member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

In his interests and activities, Andy’s zest for life could be seen. Even into his early 90s, he continued to enjoy golf and snow skiing in addition to his passion for bowling and roller skating.

Andy continued to be active and engaged despite the limitations of his age, always keen to find delight in the pursuits he enjoyed. Everyone who had the honour of knowing him is left with a lasting memory of his positive attitude and enthusiasm for life.

Agnes Brennan, his sister from Manchester, New Jersey, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews also survive Andy.

His sisters Bernadette Ritter and Angela Vrbicky, brother Rudolph Ritter, a nephew, and a great-great-nephew all predeceased him.

Despite the fact that Andy will be sorely missed, his memory endures because to the yearly tribute beer and the ongoing support for ALS research.
