According to the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, His Excellency Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, is escaping the State Of The Nation Address because of the current state Ghana is in. Hon. Murtala Muhammed claims the president’s fear of accounting for the mess the country is in, is the only reason for him not addressing.
Speaking at an interview with Ghanaweb, the MP stated that, the Akuffo Addo led government has no achievement or any better repute to boast of and that’s the only reason for the president to dodge the SONA.
” ..the postponement of the SONA is an admission that we are in a mess. What is the president coming to tell the people of this country? The purpose of the state of the nation address is to inform the people of this country of the true state of the nation. He is just to account to them what the real state of the nation is. I think that they don’t have any good story to tell the only story they have is the story that will expose them the more and that is the reason the president is running away from it”, he stated.
Mr. Murtala’s assertions were in response to the Deputy Majority Leader’s announcement. According to the Deputy Majority Leader, the president wouldn’t be available for the usual State of The Nation Address and therefore a different date shall be scheduled for that.
