Adrian Sutil is a German racing driver who spent seven seasons in Formula One. He was born on January 11, 1983, in Starnberg, West Germany. Sutil began his racing career in karting at the age of 14, progressing to single-seater racing in 2002.
In 2002, Sutil won the Swiss Formula Ford Championship. In 2003, he competed in the Formula Masters Austria and the Formula BMW ADAC. In 2005, Sutil raced in the Formula 3 Euroseries, finishing second to Lewis Hamilton.
With the Spyker F1 team, which subsequently changed its name to Force India, Sutil made his Formula One debut in 2007. Before making a comeback to the sport in 2013 with the same squad, he raced for Force India until 2011. He started racing for Sauber in 2014.
Sutil faced controversy throughout his Formula One career. He got into an altercation with Eric Lux, the CEO of Genii Capital, in a Shanghai nightclub in 2011 by hitting him with a champagne glass. After being found guilty of assault, he was given a suspended prison term.
Sutil is well-known for his collection of expensive sports vehicles, which includes Ferraris, Bugattis, and Koenigseggs, outside of the racing world.
Sutil joined Williams F1 as a backup driver in 2015. If Valtteri Bottas or Felipe Massa, the team’s two main drivers, could not compete in a race, he joined the team as a replacement.
